When To Submit Your Book Order ; ;TopThe best time to submit your order is six to eight weeks before the next term begins. The more time we have to fullfull your requests, the more prepared we are to resolve stock availability issues, search for used books, and ensure that the books are available by the first day of the term.Why order through the Bay Tree Bookstore? ; ;TopThe Bay Tree Bookstore is committed to serving the course material needs of all courses, and many students want and expect the convenience of having all their books in one place. Some students cannot utilize their financial assistance programs through other stores, nor can they utilize charge programs set up by parents through the Bay Tree Bookstore if the books are not available here. The Bay Tree Bookstore also provides a time-saving Textbook Pre-Order Service, which many students and their families find very convenient. Why Order Early? ; ;TopHaving the right books, in quantities sufficient to meet your class's needs, is a time-consuming process. It includes verifying editions and publishers, looking extensively for used copies, coordinating buy-backs from students, and allowing for the vagaries of freight and shipping. Sometimes, publishers are out-of-stock, or the book may be out-of-print, and we need sufficient time to notify you of these possible problems so you'll have time to adjust, if necessary. Ordering early is especially critical for buyback from students. If we know in advance that a book is going to be re-used the following quarter, students receive more money for it when they participate in our buyback program.What About Prices? ; ;TopThe Bay Tree Bookstore makes every effort to obtain the most competitive prices for the benefit of UCSC students. Our efforts include searching for used books, negotiating discounts from publishers, and offering alternatives to faculty to lower the cost of course materials. Desk Copies ; ;TopFaculty desk copies should be ordered directly from publishers. Faculty resource offices generally handle these requests. You can contact specific publishers about their desk copy policy by using the web.Course Readers ; ;TopThe Bookstore handles the distribution of Course Readers that are prepared by Professor Publishing at the UCSC Copy Center located at the J Baskin Engineering Building, Room 25 (near the post office). Using Professor Publishing for your course readers guarantees that all appropriate copyright permissions are handled properly. All materials and questions concerning the production of course readers should be directed to Professor Publishing at 831/459-3888 or via email at profbpub@ucsc.edu.Other Book Services ; ;TopThe Bookstore maintains a general book and reference book department on the first floor of the bookstore. We are happy to special order any book that you need. We strive to maintain an extensive UCSC faculty book section; please notify us of any of your publications or new releases so that we might include them in our store selection.Enhancing Student Satisfaction with their Course Materials ; ;TopTextbooks are expensive, and students should get the most value possible from them. You can help in a number of ways: Utilize your chosen textbook material to the greatest extent possible. Consult with us on what the actual selling price to the student will be. Publisher sales representatives may occasionally misquote retail pricing. Submit your orders early to help students maximize their buy-back prices. Request only materials you intend to use in class, and distinguish between ";Required, Recommended, or Optional."; Students dislike buying texts that see little or no use. Give careful consideration to bundles and packages before adopting them. Some can be a good deal, however students are frequently skeptical about free materials.
