Bay Tree Campus Store Fall 2024 Course Material Update
The Bay Tree Campus Store remains committed to easing the financial burden of course materials for students. Since partnering with Akademos in January 2022, students have saved an impressive $917,000 in total. This significant cost reduction highlights the successful transition from the Campus Store's in-store retail approach to a virtual course material provider, offering students a wider range of options at more affordable prices.
Diverse Options for Cost Savings Students now have access to several cost-saving options, including:
- Used textbooks
- A peer-to-peer marketplace
- A comprehensive selection of digital eBooks
These alternatives are designed to lower costs and increase convenience for students.
Inclusive Access: A Game Changer The Inclusive Access (IA) program, also known as Day One Digital, has gained popularity among UC Santa Cruz faculty and students. IA offers the most cost-effective solution compared to print or non-IA eBook options, saving students $618,630 compared to traditional textbooks. This fall quarter, IA enrollment has surged by 121% compared to the same time last year, demonstrating a growing appreciation for this innovative approach to course materials.
Scholarships The partnership with Akademos extends beyond cost savings. Since September 2022, this collaboration has facilitated the awarding of over $52,000 in scholarships to both graduate and undergraduate students. These funds support the purchase of textbooks and school supplies, contributing to academic success and easing financial burdens.
Collaboration with the Library The Campus Store works closely with the UCSC Library team to identify free eBooks available through the library system. These resources are prominently featured on the Course Material Website, ensuring students can access valuable materials at no extra cost whenever possible.
UC Santa Cruz continues to prioritize affordability and accessibility. The Bay Tree Campus Store continues to lead the way in supporting student success by providing cost-effective solutions for course materials.
